One type of cable produced at PT XYZ is the low-voltage NYY cable. One of the most important processes in the production process is the sheating process. The problem that is often encountered in the sheating process is the occurrence of visual defects with a percentage of 63.3% of the total defects that occur throughout 2021. Visual defects are divided into several types, including: sticky, wavy outer sheat, dull outer sheat, porous outer sheat, color does not match, and so on. The type of visual defect that often occurs is sticky defect with a percentage of 31.75%. Throughout 2021 the sticky defect was caused by the stickiness of the insulation layer with the outer sheat layer due to the non-coated insulation layer with non-stick material.
By analyzing using a six sigma approach, the results obtained in the form of proposed improvements by designing a powder applicator machine. The design is done by making a powder applicator machine with a tub system and there is a mixer with an electric motor drive on the inside of the tub and using a heater on the outside of the tub. The results obtained after the installation of the tool in June 2022 were that no sticky defects were found
